On my own journey
Documenting the grind and the flow.
This is me in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil after placing 3rd at the Brazilian No-Gi Nationals in 2025.
Hi, I’m Serge Severenchuk. I’m a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt training out of New York City’s Marcelo Garcia Jiu Jitsu Academy. I’m an active competitor in the adult and master 1 black belt divisions.
Jiu Jitsu is my life’s passion so I want to share what I have learned from nearly 20 years of the Jiu Jitsu grind. Lessons about technique, strategy, optimization, nutrition, athleticism, recovery, psychology, and life. Lessons on the science of performance and the art of fulfillment.
Major competition highlights:
3rd place at the Brasiliero No-Gi 2025 Championship [Brazilian Nationals] in master 1, middle weight, black belt division. One of top four IBJJF tournaments annually. Brasileiro is part of “Grand Slam” along with World Championship, European Championship and Pan American Championship.
What makes my approach unique? I bring PhD rigor to studying Jiu Jitsu — applying an academic, highly analytical framework to identifying and making improvements. However, data and rationality are not enough. I also believe that exercising intentional presence (being in the moment) is what allows a practitioner to progress multiple times faster and find true fulfillment in one’s journey.
